Benediktas Vanagas upgrades his laptop: the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen10 for all the speed sections

The latest addition to the reliable Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon line-up is the X1 Carbon Gen10. This computer’s parameters and differences from previous models are presented by loyal Lenovo fan and rally driver Benediktas Vanagas, who already has a symbolic ten Dakar rallies to his name.

The Dakar veteran’s philosophy is simple – the main working tool simply has to be the latest and greatest. Otherwise, it’s hard to expect top results. So naturally, this philosophy also applies to the choice of a laptop, which is why Benediktas is loyal to the ever-changing Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon series, whose models meet all of the criteria that Benediktas considers most important to him: durability, lightness, power and reliability.

His previous X1 Carbon Gen8 was tested to the limit: it was subjected to a lot of shaking during extreme races and a full day in -20 degrees Celsius cold. But that’s no laughing matter for the Lenovo ThinkPad series, which has been tested to 12 military standards. Benedict has no doubt about the robustness of the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen10, which is made of carbon fibre, just like the previous models. This is the material used in high-end sports protective equipment and is also the material used in Benediktas Vanagas’s own racing helmet. What’s more, the surprisingly lightweight carbon fibre shell is complemented by a super-strong magnesium alloy frame, so the new X1 Carbon Gen10 weighs just 1.12kg.

While the racer’s previous laptop, the X1 Carbon Gen8, still performs admirably, the Gen10 is simply irresistible. Powered by a 12th-generation Intel processor, this Lenovo newcomer performs twice as fast as the eighth-generation Carbon, and the 16:10 diagonal display is easily configurable with a built-in privacy filter, OLED and Touch technologies. A Full HD camera and four microphones significantly improve the quality of remote meetings, which Benediktas himself admits are not only needed during the race. The latter, by the way, is greatly helped by the wide choice of connectors that many other manufacturers have unjustly neglected – you won’t need USB or HDMI adapters to give a presentation to a client.

What would be really hard to do without, not only in the Dakar but also on a much shorter journey, is a quality internet connection. The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen10 supports 5G connectivity, so you can have fast internet speeds virtually anywhere in the world with a SIM or eSIM card from a mobile operator.

This laptop is truly open to “connectivity” while being protected from hackers. Benediktas admits that he has never heard of Lenovo’s new TILE technology, but Apple AirTag users will understand how important it is to have a device that you always know where it is, even if it is stolen or switched off.

Lithuania’s most famous racer has good news for those who are still hesitant – all Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops come with Premier Support service and ADP One insurance. This means you get free and ultra-fast warranty repairs, no matter what the obstacle course, whether you “accidentally” hit the keyboard with a cup of coffee or accidentally smash the screen.
