Established with the slogan “Professionalism that moves.” — the freight transportation and forwarding company “Linėja Transport” decided to fundamentally change its technology infrastructure after an audit conducted by Skaylink. The company’s IT Director, Vytautas Gliaubicas, is pleased with the implemented changes and reminds us that correct investments are essential for moving forward.
The collaboration between Skaylink and “Linėja Transport” began with an IT infrastructure audit, which assessed the role of the IT department in business, its involvement in business development processes, and its contribution to overall business goals, among other things. The results showed significant room for improvement. The analysis revealed outdated employee tools, unauthorized installations of unlicensed software on several computers, and inaccuracies in the count of computer workstations.
Vytautas states that over the 13 years of the company’s existence, considerable time and finances have been invested to adapt the accounting program “Infotrans” for employee convenience and to exploit the benefits of free Google applications. However, this alone is not enough. The company has always aimed, and continues to aim, to grow, so the time for wise decisions is now.
The audit, having identified key aspects, allowed the company’s IT infrastructure to undergo a fundamental renewal. Administrative rights for users at computer workstations were revoked, and all unused, outdated, or unlicensed programs were removed from the computers. “Windows Home” licenses were replaced with “Windows Pro”, computers were further encrypted using “Bitlocker”, and a centrally managed “Sophos” antivirus solution was implemented for enhanced security. This solution’s firewalls are now used in all “Linėja Transport” branches (in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Kėdainiai). Moreover, the newly adopted “Service Desk” service has reduced problem resolution time from 1-2 days to 3-5 hours.
The logistics system “Infotrans” has now been transferred to a containerized solution in Skaylink Cloud. Previously, “Linėja Transport”, which used to rent server services from other providers, was uninformed about necessary server parameters, and the program transfer posed a significant risk. However, after a detailed analysis of the migration process, the entire system was entrusted to Skaylink.
“The decision paid off handsomely. After the transfer and additional maintenance, the company’s business accounting program is unquestionably faster. For instance, a page that used to load in 20-40 seconds on the old server now loads in just 5-10 seconds,” says Vytautas Gliaubicas, the company’s IT Director.
The company’s migration to the M365 environment has been met with similar enthusiasm. Daily processes are eased by mail forwarding and the “Teams” application, and security is monitored and managed even at the license level with the activated BTT Armour service. The implementation of the latter required no arguments, as the policy of “Linėja Transport” is clear – investments in security are not a luxury but a necessity.
Currently, “Linėja Transport” is most pleased with the automated invoicing system implemented with Skaylink’s assistance, transforming processes that require huge capacities into daily and straightforward tasks (for comparison, the company issues up to 6000 different invoices each month). Although the initial architecture is already in place, the logistics company plans to continue improving its IT infrastructure and implementing another important solution for management, MS Sharepoint, in the future.
