In 2027, Starlink will face competition in Lithuania. Amazon Leo satellite connectivity is expected to launch in Lithuania and Latvia in April and in Estonia in July – the further north, the harder the service is to deliver technically.
Speaking to LRT.lt, Donatas Zaveckas, CEO of Skaylink Lithuania and Amazon Leo’s representative in the Baltic states, stressed that the Baltics will be among the very first markets where the service becomes available.

Business first
Amazon Leo will focus on business customers first. Its key advantage is the ability to connect satellite links directly with AWS cloud services and companies’ private networks. Later, the service will also be available to individual users.
Dozens of Lithuanian companies, public institutions and organisations operating abroad are already waiting for the service, and the list may soon pass one hundred.
A backup connection
Lithuania has one of the best fibre networks in the world, so according to Zaveckas, satellite connectivity will be most valuable here as a backup channel – for example, when a storm damages mobile network infrastructure. Mobile operators themselves could also use it to reinforce their networks.
Fewer satellites, newer technology
Amazon Leo has fewer satellites than Starlink, but they use newer technology that lets them cover larger areas. The full constellation of more than 3,200 satellites is planned to be in orbit by 2029. In the future, the company also plans to deliver connectivity directly to devices – starting with cars.
